God is Omnipresent

“Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence? If I ascend to heaven, you are there! If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there! If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me.”

– Psalm 139:7-10 (ESV)

God is omnipresent.

Definition: Omnipresence means that God is everywhere at the same time. There is no place that God is not, or time that God is not at. God does not have size or spatial dimensions and is present at every point of space with his whole being, yet God acts differently in different places.

God is without limits, he is infinite in space as time. This is because God is the creator of both time and space!

“But will God indeed dwell with man on the earth? Behold, heaven and the highest heaven cannot contain you, how much less this house that I have built!” – 2 Chron 6:18

Even though God’s presence cannot be contained, God still displayed his presences among men in places like the temple and in the tabernacle (Ex 25:8; 40:34-38; 2 Chron 7:1-3). We should however be discouraged from the idea that there is a special place of worship that gives people special access to God, since he cannot be contained in any one place. God is as much with you in your house than at church. Let this be an encouragement for us and a reminder that we can pray, seek, and feel God’s presence anywhere we are.
