There are times in life when we may feel overcome by our sin. Sometimes we may want to hide from God or we may think that we have gone too far, our sin is too wicked, our darkness has hidden us from God. Two lies that people can believe are: #1 “I can hide from God; He will not see my sin, I am hidden in my darkness,” and #2 I have gone too far, I have sinned too much, I am in too much darkness for God to care about me anymore.” But we can know from Scripture that these statements are not true. Psalm 139 is an amazing Psalm about the omniscience and omnipresence of God, He knows and sees all things.
Verse 11 and 12 of Psalm 139 states:
“If I say, ‘Surely the darkness shall cover me, and the light about me be night,’ even the darkness is not dark to you; the night is bright as the day, for darkness is as light with you.”
Simply put, we cannot hide from God. God sees all that we do, even in our “darkness.” This statement may either be terrifying or comforting to you. Terrifying because while we may want to think that we can keep our sin a secret, we cannot keep it a secret from God. Comforting because we know that no matter how bad we fall, God is still watching us, waiting for us to turn back to Him. Know and believe today that you can never hide from God, if that makes you fear, good! Repent and seek God, no matter what darkness you are in He still sees you and will forgive you. Rest in the knowledge that God knows us perfectly but yet still loves us!
